Dutchwomen place first at the Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – Union was able to defeat Widener and Ithaca en route to placing first at the Bomber Invitational Saturday afternoon.  

The Dutchwomen were able to defeat the Pride in their first match in four sets. The first two sets Union won the sets with a six-point cushion of 25-19. In the following set, the Dutchwomen were edged out 24-26. However, Union was able to put away the Pride in the fourth set with a 27-25 victory to advance to the first place game against the host of the Bomber Invitational Ithaca. Rachel Wyman led the Dutchwomen with 16 kills and senior Nora Wood tallied 11 kills. Mackenzie Westfall and Kim Armstrong continued to set up the Union attack with assists of 25 and 17 respectively. Marissa Vollmer led the team with 36 digs. Wood also had six block assists while Lauren Woods had five block assists and one solo block. Armstrong also contributed to the Union attack with three service aces.

In the match against Ithaca, the Dutchwomen were able to handle the Bombers in straight sets with wins of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-19. Wyman again led Union in kills with 14 kills and hitting percentage with .500. Westfall led in the assists category with 14 while Kelly White had 10 of her own including nine digs. Casey Tepper continued her strong play with nine kills and nine digs of her own including two service aces.

Both Tepper and Wyman were named to the All-Tournament team while Tepper was named Most Valuable Player in the Tournament.

The Dutchwomen will be on the road again as they travel to Middlebury College on Tuesday, September 11 with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
