SCHENECTADY, NY -- Freshman guard Aldin Medunjanin scored a game high 24 points and made all 11 free throw attempts to lead visiting Skidmore College to a 76-66 Liberty League victory at Union College Friday at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Thoroughbreds are now 2-2 in league play and 8-5 overall while the Dutchmen had a 10 game winning streak snapped to fall to 11-2 and 3-1 in league play. It was Union's first loss since a 73-67 defeat at Hamilton on November 24, 2012.
Tanner Brooks scored 15 points and joined Medunjanin with five assists, while Kevin Dahill scored 12. Medunjanin had a team high seven rebounds and Eli Johnston added six boards with his nine points for Skidmore. The guests shot 51% for the game and outrebounded the hosts, 34-25.
Keven Donohue led Union with 21 points and eight rebounds, both team highs. He made 10 of his 11 shots from the charity stripe.
Joe Mason scored 20 with five boards and both players had four assists for the Dutchmen, who shot 41% for the night.
The Thoroughbreds shot 56% in the first half (14 for 25) for a 41-36 lead at halftime. The came out strong and went on a 14-1 run in the first 6:50 of the second half. During that run, Medunjanin scored five points and Johnston had four, and when Brooks hit a three pointer with 13:10 left was an 18 point lead to cap the run and make it 55-37. Union got as close as eight with 9:53 left on a dunk by Donohue to make it 57-49, but Skidmore led by as many as 15 in the final minutes (70-55 with 3:15 remaining) and in the final 2:01, made six free throws to seal the triumph.
Union ends a four game homestand Saturday when the Dutchmen host local league rival RPI at 4 p.m.
