Shayne Gostisbehere helps Team USA earn gold medal at World Junior Championships

SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere helped Team USA earn its third gold medal in a 3-1 win over Sweden at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia this morning.
 
Gostisbehere saw significant ice time in the deciding game, and was on the ice for both of Team USA's even strength goals, finishing the night with a +1 rating.
 
Rocco Grimaldi scored twice for the Americans, leading Team USA to the victory in the championship game. It is the third gold medal for team USA, which also won in 2004 and 2010.

“I'm really excited to play in the gold medal game at the World Juniors,” Gostisbehere said before the game. “We're just going to take advantage of our opportunity, stick to our system, and do what we've got to do to win out there, whatever it takes.”

Gostisbehere recorded a goal and an assist in six tournament games for Team USA.

A native of Margate, Florida, Gostisbehere is in the midst of a breakout campaign in his sophomore year at Union. He is sixth on the team in scoring with 13 points (five goals, eight assists), has emerged as one of Union's top offensive playmakers this season.
