SCOTIA, NY -- Prior to resuming their regular season schedule, the Union College women's basketball team met some new friends on the court at a local middle school.
On January 3, the team worked with students from Scotia Middle School. The students were sixth graders at the school and the Dutchwomen put the students through a variety of drills and tips to improve their game.
"We were asked to goi and help with a local sixth grade travel team from Scotia, and we were excited to do so," said junior
Brittney Kenney. "This team had come to a few of our games, and we wanted to return the support. We went to the practice with the girls, who were very excited to see us. They really loved having us there, helping them with anything from dribbling skills to layups.
The coach had us instruct the girls through some drills of our choice, and it was awesome to see the young girls do their best to push through drills we do at our practices," continued Kenney. "We loved the energy that the players brought to this session, and it was a great feeling to help out a local team that we could all relate to. Our team loves to give back to the community in anyway we can, and being able to relate it back to the sport we love with young girls made it even better."
Union leads the Liberty League with a 4-0 record, and stands 8-3 overall. The Dutchwomen have won seven straight and host local Liberty League rivals Skidmore Friday (6 p.m.) and RPI Saturday (2 p.m.).
