SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's soccer team earned their third Liberty League victory in a 5-0 win over Hobart. With the win, Union improved to 10-2-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Liberty League.
Five different players scored for Union. Sophomore forward
Carl Faber and senior forward
Nick Vozzella each chipped in a goal and an assist for the Dutchmen. Faber now leads the team with eight goals and 18 points.
Jeff Cohen scored the first goal of the game at 5:35 on a shot from 30 yards out. In the 19th minute, Vozzella made it 2-0 after quick passes from Faber and Carter. Faber stretched the Dutchmen's lead to three in the 27th minute after a pass from
Mike Kaye, and
Daniel Miller gave Union a 4-0 advantage at halftime with a goal in the 38th minute. It was set up by Vozzella and
Jake Soodek.
Kevin Janson capped the win with a goal on a penalty kick in the 50th minute.
Junior goaltender
Ryan Carter played the entire match in goal for the Dutchmen and made four saves en route to his fourth shutout of the season. With the win, Carter improved his record to 10-2-1 with a .826 save-percentage and a .63 goals-against-average. Statesman goaltender Mike Lucas played the first half for Hobart and made one save. Tyler Serafine came in for the second half and stopped three shots.
The shots were even at 11 for each team. The Dutchmen held a slight 3-2 advantage in corners.
The Dutchmen are back in action on Wednesday Oct. 16 when they welcome Western Connecticut to College Park for a 4:00 pm matchup.
