Dutchwomen blank RIT for seventh straight victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Union College women's volleyball team blanked RIT 3-0 for their seventh straight victory on Friday night at Clark Gym. With the win the Dutchwomen improve to 19-7 on the year and 8-2 in conference play.

With the quick defeat of the Tigers, the Dutchwomen have continued their streak of unbeaten matches, to a season high seven. The Dutchwomen also haven't dropped a single game in four straight matches.

Union took the first two sets easily, 25-18 and 25-15. The Dutchwomen had to fend off a late run by the Tigers in the third and final set, but prevailed with a 25-22 win.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Wyman led the Dutchwomen attack with seven kills with freshman middle hitter Morgan Clark trailing slightly with six kills. Amanda Price continued to dish out assists, registering 15 on the afternoon. Senior defensive specialist Marissa Vollmer, who is coming off a week where she earned Liberty League Performer of the Week honors, continued her strong play by leading the team with 22 kills and three service aces. Clark also led the Dutchwomen with seven blocks.

The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow with matches against St. Lawrence, who currently sit just one game behind Union in the standings, and Clarkson, who are undefeated (10-0) in Liberty League action. Times for the matches are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively.
