SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College women's soccer team saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to the Rochester Institute of Technology in Liberty League action at College Park Field. The loss was just the second in the last nine games for
Brian Speck's squad, which honored six seniors prior to their last home game:
Rachel Cohen,
Meghan Cole,
Nicole Collins,
Caroline Gorka,
Kelsey Fish and
Melissa Scinto.
Sierra Kiss scored the game's lone goal at 53:42, using her speed to separate from two Union defenders and chipping a shot past goalkeeper
Kara Mashuta. Mashuta made five saves in her collegiate debut in goal, replacing starter
Allison Brustowicz who was injured last week.
The Dutchwomen nearly tied the game with 24 minutes left, when
Rachel Cohen stepped up into the final third of the field and launched a shot wide. Earlier in the game,
Mollie Gilchrist just missed the inside far post on a diving save from Amanda Murray, who also turned awhile a quality scoring chance from
Whitney Bickford just before halftime.
RIT (10-2-3 overall, 5-1-1 LL) outshot Union, 18-11, and doubled up the home side in corners (7-3).
Union (9-5-0 overall, 4-3-0 LL) travels to the College at Brockport on Wednesday (Oct. 30) before closing the regular season next Saturday (Nov. 2) at Vassar.
