BROCKPORT, NY -- Union's women's soccer team surrendered two late goals in a 3-1 loss at Brockport State in a non-league contest held at Eunice Kennedy Stadium. The Dutchwomen (9-6-0) have dropped back-to-back contests for just the second time this season.
Brockport (11-4-1) staked a 1-0 lead just 16 minutes into the contest as Vanessa Gillette broke in alone on goalkeeper
Allison Brustowicz and buried a shot into the left corner of the net. The lead stood until 53:28 of the second half when
Whitney Bickford converted on a penalty kick -- just the second of the season for Union -- for her fifth goal of the year.
The Golden Eagles then struck twice in a span of three minutes, five seconds behind goals from Chelsea Stahl (ninth of the season) and Cayli Carmona (third). Carmona's unassisted tally at 86:05 doomed the Garnet and White, who had played seven of their previous eight games on home turf.
Union did benefit from the return of Brustowicz, who missed last Saturday's contest after suffering an injury against Elmira on Oct. 19. A season-long starter, Brustowicz kept the game close with five saves.
Coach
Brian Speck's team closes the regular season this Saturday (Nov. 2) at Vassar with hopes of securing a berth into the Liberty League Tournament.
