ROCHESTER, NY -- Kai Deans scored 28 points and Mason Horne had 23 to lead The Sage Colleges to a 98-73 men's basketball win at the Nazareth Tournament Saturday. Sage improved to 1-1 after the consolation game victory while the Dutchwomen fell to 0-2.
Jeff Stopera scored 16 with a game high nine assists and Melvin Ford scored 14 with eight rebounds. Dean had a double double, pulling down a game best 13 rebounds. Sage had a 52-29 rebounding advantage and shot 51% and dished out 20 assists for the game.
Union was led by
Keith Callies, with 21 points, and
Terell Winney, who pumped in 20.
Kevin Weckworth scored 18 points and was nine for 11 from the free throw line. The Dutchmen shot 42% for the day.
Sage had a 46-42 lead and led by just two after a Callies jumper 13 seconds into the second half. But with Sage up by four with 12:36 left, the Gators went on a 15-3 run and led 77-61 left with 6:56 to play. The largest lead was 56 with 34 seconds remaining.
Union opens the home season on November 26, as the Dutchmen host Hartwick at 8 p.m. at the Viniar Athletic Center.
