Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - The Union College women's volleyball team split the final two matches of the weekend as they were edged by Fredonia State 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 19-21) that was followed by a defeat of Kean University 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-8) on Saturday afternoon. Rachel Wyman was named to the Skidmore Invitational All-Tournament team for her performacnes in the three matches over the weekend.
Wyman racked up 42 kills over the three matches (2.8 kills per set) as well as picking up four blocks. Wyman led the Dutchwomen in kills in both matches on Saturday afternoon.
The Dutchwomen opened up Saturday afternoon with a long match with Fredonia State. The teams traded the first two sets before the Dtuchwomen grabbed control in the third set with a 25-20 vicotry. Fredonia State roared back and earned a 25-18 victory in the fourth set to stay alive. The final set saw 40 total points but was eventually own by Fredonia State.
Wyman led the attack with 17 kills while freshman setter Amand Price and senior setter
Mackenzie Westfall dished out a combined 40 assists. Senior defensive specialist
Marissa Vollmer led the Dutchwomen in digs once again as she racked up 25 on the day. Sophomore
Kelley White also had an impressive match as she racked up seven kills to go along with 18 digs and 1 service ace. Sophomore
Lauren Woods led the Dutchwomen in blocks with six.
Union ended their regular season with a victory after stealing the fourth and fifth sets from Kean. With the victory the Dutchwomen ended the regular season with a record of 21-10.
Wyman once again led the Dutchwomen attack with 14 kills. White added 10 kills and 19 digs in the match. Vollmer led the Dutchwomen in digs with 31. Price continued her impressive day by racking up 25 assists in addition to her 17 digs. Woods led Unio in blocks with three solo blocks and three assisted blocks.
The Dutchwomen turn their attention to the Liberty League Championship tournament which kicks off this Friday at Clarkson. The Dutchwomen face St. Lawrence on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. in the single-elimination style bracket. If they advance they will play either Clarkson or Vassar in the Liberty League Championship match on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
