Dutchwomen fall to Colgate on road

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team fell 5-1 in their first conference road match to Colgate. Senior Elsa Bruestle picked up her first point of the season on an assist to Kathryn Tomaselli on the Dutchwomen's only goal of the evening.

Tomaselli picked up her third goal of the season early in the third period off a feed from Bruestle and fellow senior Maddy Norton, who registered her sixth point of the season on the play.

The Dutchwomen fell behind early after giving up two goals in the first 2:30 of the opening stanza. The Raiders leading scorers Jocelyn Simpson and Miriam Drubel tallied the first two goals that were separated by just 13 seconds. Colgate would add another goal with just 41 seconds remaining in the period after Cat Quirion picked up her first goal of the season.

Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg was replaced by sophomore netminder Madeleine Dahl to begin the second period. Lundberg made eight saves in the first period.

The Raiders would add two more goals in the second period, including a power play tally by Taylor Volpe.

The Dutchwomen continued to attack and eventually broke through in the third period on Bruestle's goal.

Union went 0-5 on the power play in the game.
Colgate goaltender Brittney Brooks finished the game with 20 saves while Dahl racked up 17 saves in two periods of relief.

The Dutchwomen were dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 26 draws to Colgate's 17. Senior forward Mac Purvis and sophomore forward Rebecca Babiak each registered 9 wins on the night. The 26 wins marks the first time the Dutchwomen have won the faceoff battle this year.

The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow when they travel to Ithaca for a 4 p.m. matchup with #3 Cornell.
