ITHACA, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team fell to ECAC Hockey foe #3 Cornell 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. With the loss the Dutchwomen fall to 4-8-0 and 1-3-0 in ECACH play on the season.

Senior defenseman Ashley Johnston tallied her second goal of the season on the power play. Sophomore forward Jessica Kaminsky circled behind the net and fed the puck to junior forward Christine Valente who was positioned along the left-side boards. As Kaminsky circled to the top of the crease, Valente dished the puck to Johnston who gathered the pass and fired a shot to the top right corner of the net through the Kaminsky screen. Valente and Kaminsky recieved assists on the play.

The Big Red converted three of their four power play opportunities to help propel them to the 8-1 victory. The Dutchwomen scored their only goal on the power play as they went 1-5 on power play opportunities on the afternoon.

The Dutchwomen registered 30 shots in the game, which is the second time this season they have hit the 30-plus shot mark. Senior forward Elsa Bruestle led the Dutchwomen in shots with 5.

Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg made 23 saves on the evening, including 11 in the second period alone. Cornell replaced Lauren Slebodnick with Paula Voorheis in the second period. Slebodnick was credited with the win after making 10 saves in the first period. Voorheis allowed one goal and made 19 saves in her two periods of work.

The Dutchwomen blocked a total of 23 shots on Cornell's top-rated offense. Junior defenseman Alex Tancrell-Fontaine led the Dutchwomen in blocks with five. Senior defenseman Maddy Norton and junior defenseman Kelly McGrath also were part of the block party after recording four blocks a piece.
