Colin Stevens recorded his second shutout of the season as Union defeated Princeton, 3-0, in ECAC Hockey action at Messa Rink. Union extended its winning streak to six games and maintained its hold of second place in the ECAC Hockey.
The 11th-ranked Dutchmen (9-3-2/6-1-0) finished with a 34-20 shot advantage, a statistical trend that has become the norm this season. It marked the 13th time in 14 games that Union outshot its opponent.
Rick Bennett's squad jumped out a 2-0 lead after the first period.
Kevin Sullivan struck on the power play at 7:49, followed by
Daniel Ciampini's eighth goal of the season at 12:07.
Bodie added an insurance goal (his first of the year) with a wrister at 18:54 of the third period. In the process, he reached the 100-point milestone for his career.
Stevens finished with 20 saves to notch his fifth career shutout, as Union stretched its unbeaten streak against the Tigers to nine games (7-0-2).
Union will host fifth-ranked Quinnipiac tomorrow night in a showdown of the ECAC's first and second-place teams. Faceoff is 7:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
