POTSDAM, NY – Junior forward
Josh Jooris scored his seventh goal of the season, but No. 18 men's hockey (13-9-5, 6-5-4 ECAC Hockey) fell, 2-1, to Clarkson (7-13-7, 6-6-3 ECAC Hockey) in front of 2,226 fans at Cheel Arena.
For the game, Union outshout Clarkson 28-18, including a 12-4 advantage in the third period. But Clarkson goaltender Greg Lewis (27 saves) was solid in net for the Golden Knights, who snapped a nine-game losing streak to Union dating back to Jan. 23, 2009.
Sam Labrecque scored a first period goal, and Allan McPherson tacked on the deciding score on a Clarkson power play in the second period.
With Union trailing 2-0 late in the third period, Jooris scored on a backhander with 6:23 remaining in the frame, scooping a rebound of a shot by sophomore defenseman
Charlie Vasaturo over Lewis to cut into Clarkson's lead.
The Dutchmen continued to apply pressure in the waning minutes, as sophomore defenseman
Shayne Gostisbehere fired wide of an open net before drawing a late Union power play after Nik Pokulok was called for tripping at the 14:50 mark.
But Union failed to generate any quality scoring chances on the man advantage, as the Dutchmen finished 0-for-3 for the night on the power play.
Union trailed 1-0 after the first period despite a number of quality scoring chances in the opening frame.
Labrecque gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at the 7:46 mark. Simon Bessette fed Labrecque in the high slot from behind the Union net and Labrecque fired a low slapshot past Union goaltender
Troy Grosenick (five saves) to give the home team an early lead.
Union controlled play for the remainder of the period as senior defenseman
Greg Coburn nearly evened the score at the 10:30 mark, but his rebound try in the slot sailed wide of the net.

Nick Cruice both had chances from just outside the goal crease but Lewis made a series of stops to help Clarkson maintain a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Clarkson's Allan McPherson gave the Golden Knights a two goal lead on their first power play opportunity of the night with senior forward
Kyle Bodie in the penalty box for boarding.
Freshman forward
David Roy had a shorthanded chance for Union stopped by Lewis and Clarkson skated back the other way on a 3-on-1. McPherson took a pass from Ben Sexton on the right wing and beat Grosenick with a low shot at 6:38 to put the Golden Knights up 2-0.
Grosenick was pulled from the game in favor of sophomore goaltender
Colin Stevens (11 saves) after the second period goal. Stevens saw his first action in net since Jan. 5 at Lake Superior St..
Union will look to rebound tomorrow night at St. Lawrence in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
