Softball swept in second day in Florida

CLERMONT, FL -- It was a very rainy day in Florida Sunday and two Union softball games featured delayed starts due to the weather. The Dutchwomen wound up playing late in the evening but did get both contests in.

Union lost to St. Thomas, 9-1 in five innings, and closed out the day with a 9-1, five inning loss to Wisconsin River Falls to fall to 1-4 on the young season.

In the opener, Molly O'Brien had three of Union's seven hits. She had a double and two singles in the contest. The Tommies recorded 11 hits en route to the victory. In the second game, which did not start until 8:30 p.m., the Dutchwomen were held to three hits by three River Falls pitchers. Starter Brooke Lauritzen improved to 5-0 on the season and gave up two hits and an unearned run in three innings. Alyssa Wolejko had an RBI single in the third inning.

Union will face Middlebury and Merrimack in games slated for Monday morning.
