CLERMONT, FL -- The Union softball team got three hits from
Samantha Chevalier and a complete game win from
Sarah Logan in a 9-3 victory over Oberlin Wednesday. Earlier in the day,
Lindsay Cohen had three hits but the Dutchwomen lost to Buffalo State 8-4. Union ended the day with a 3-6 record.
In the victory over Oberlin, Chevalier and
Allyson Staats drove in two runs each and Union pounded out 10 hits. The Dutchwomen batted around with a five run fifth to break open a 2-1 lead. Logan allowed two earned runs and eight hits in a complete seven inning performance. She struck out six for her second win in three decisions. Eight of the nine players in the batting order produced a hit.
Jenny Goldsmith had two hits and drove in a run for Oberlin. Sadie Oliver-Grey allowed five earned runs in six innings and Melanie Budney gave up four hits and an earned run in the final two innings.
Earlier in the day, Buffalo State broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the third en route to the triumph. The Bengals produced 13 hits, including three from Carly Knight, who also had three RBIs. Breanna Fenski and Jordan Dudish had two hits each. Maddie Coneys gave up nine hits and two earned runs in a complete game victory.
Cohen had three of the Dutchwomen's nine hits, and drove in two of the four runs.
Molly O'Brien added two hits while
Allyson Staats took the loss. She allowed two earned runs in her seven innings of work.
Union continues the Florida portion of the schedule Thursday. The Dutchwomen face Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 a.m. followed by St. Olaf at 11 a.m. A doubleheader with Luther Friday will close out the spring trip.
