Nate Greenberg each had two goals and an assist, but men's lacrosse (6-6, 1-3 Liberty League) fell, 14-7 to No. 3 RIT (12-2, 4-0 Liberty League) at Frank Bailey Field.
Liberty League leading scorer Kyle Aquin scored five goals and teammate Jack Kryzton added four goals and an assist to lead the RIT offense. RIT goaltender Pat Johnston made 14 saves, while his counterpart in net,
Stefan Basile, made five saves for the Dutchmen.
Senior midfielder
Alex Stone had nine ground balls to lead both teams. For the game, Union outshot RIT, 44-32, but the Tigers held a 29-28 advantage on ground balls and 13-11 edge on faceoffs.
Union got off to a quick start in the contest as freshman
Nolan Stauffer scored on a man-up feed from Connors at 9:34 to take a 1-0 lead.
But RIT would answer with four straight goals in the contest, capped off by Kyle Aquin's tally at 13:17 of the second quarter. Connors answered for Union on a goal in tight off a feed from sophomore
Richard Gregory at 12:34.
RIT would close out the half with a three goal run, capped off by Taylor Wisman's tally at 8:02 of the 2
nd quarter to take a 7-2 lead at the break.
Union's
Greg Mooney scored from long range on the opening possession of the second half for Union at 14:24 to make it 7-3, but RIT once again answered, as Aquin scored at 14:08 (man-up) and 10:42 (man-up) to make it 9-3.
Greenberg scored his second of the afternoon at 8:48 and Connors added another goal on an impressive individual effort to get to the front of the cage at 6:03 to make it 9-5. RIT closed out the third quarter with four of the next five scores in the contest, capped off by Allister Warren's goal at 2:49.
Greenberg added his second of the contest, a man-up goal at 6:41 of the fourth quarter, while RIT's Jack Kryzton scored his fourth goal of the game with :50 to play to round out the scoring.
Union will continue Liberty League play next Wednesday at Vassar in a 7:00 p.m. contest in Poughkeepsie, NY.
