Fraser scores five, including game winner, in 13-12 lacrosse win over Ithaca



SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior midfielder Heather Fraser scored five goals, including the game winner, to lead Union College to a 13-12 women's lacrosse victory over Ithaca College at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improved to 2-3 overall after the non-league win, while the Bombers fell to 4-4.

Fraser, a senior tri-captain, scored off a free position with 4:06 remaining in regulation to cap a big comeback by the hosts. Union trailed 6-0 in the first half and 12-8 with nearly 21 minutes remaining in the second half. Heather Fraser scored at 22:01 to start the five goal spree, that featured Union's 10th by Brittany Fraser at 23:12, followed by Heather Fraser at 24:10 and Brittany from Heather at 24:45 to tie it at 12.

Brittany Fraser tallied four goals, Emily McGrail scored three and Ciara Dudeck also scored with an assist. Maggie Comiskey had two assists and Jessica Farland and Heather each added one. Union had a 22-18 ground ball advantage and the shots were 30-24 in favor of the Dutchwomen. Union was two for five in free position opportunities. Union had a commanding 20 draw controls on 27 opportunities.

Kim Grinhaus made five saves for Union while Jess Worthman stopped three in the Ithaca net.

Tracy Rivas led Ithaca with seven goals amd Nikki Dahl scored three. Kim Arbruster and Michele Avery also scored for the Bombers and Avery and Allison Runyon assisted. The Bombers were 12 for 17 on clears. Ithaca had scored the first six goals of the game, with Rivas scoring the first three, and led 6-2 at halftime.

Union continues a four game home stand with a second straight contest at Bailey Field on Friday. The Dutchwomen will host the Rochester Institute of Technology at 4 p.m. Friday.
