UTICA, NY -- The Utica College softball team moved its win streak to five games as it swept Union College, 5-2 and 10-0 (5 innings), in the final home game of the regular season.
In Game 1, Courtney Fitzgerald and Alyssa Russell each hit solo home runs to help Utica pick up the victory. Fitzgerald and Dominique Carcone were each 2-for-3 in the game, with Fitzgerald adding an RBI triple as well. Utica used a four-run second inning to pull ahead. Although Union was able to score to score two in the fourth, it was not enough as Abby Monroe held on for her 16th win of the season.
Allyson Staats was 2-for-3 at the plate, while
Samantha Chevalier drove in both of the Dutchwomen runs.
The Pioneers continued their hot streak at the plate as they tallied 11 hits and 10 runs in four innings in the nightcap. Chelsea Monroe and Alysa Russell were both a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI and two stolen bases, while Bridgette Plummer was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Briona Enny allowed just three hits in five innings of work to move to 8-1 on the season. Staats was 2-for-2 at the plate, while
Kristin Schmidt and
Lindsay Cohen were 1-for-2. Union is 16-23, while the Pioneers improve to 28-10.
Union is at Rochester for the first game of the Liberty League Championship Tournament Friday at 2 p.m.
