AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Jeff Grasso led all batters with six RBI's as the Union baseball team were able to come away with two wins in a doubleheader against Rochester at Shuttleworth Park Saturday afternoon.
In game one, Jon Menke and
Dane O'Neil faced off as opposing pitchers. The Yellow Jackets were able to get to O'Neil right away as Sam Slutsky led off with a single to left field. Ryan Ludwig was able to advance Slutsky as the Yellow Jackets took advantage of an error. Nolan Shultz then turned over a groundball to second, as Slutsky was able to go home uncontested for the game's first run.

Tyler Heck was able to draw a one out walk.
Jamie Faber followed up the at bat with a grounder to third but the first baseman dropped the throw, which allowed everyone to be safe. Micheal Fitzsimmons took advantage of the extended inning with a single through the right side to bring in Heck to level the score at one.
O'Neil settled down, as he was able to scatter two hits in the remainder six innings while striking out three batters. However, the Dutchmen were able to get to Menke again as
Vincent Esposito stroked a double into the gap with two outs.
Dylan Katz-Wicks followed the at-bat with a RBI single up the middle to give Union the 2-1 edge.
Rochester was unable to rally, as O'Neil was able to retire the side in the final two innings to pitch the complete game.
O'Neil improved to 3-1 on the season while Menke was handed his first loss, dropping to 2-1.
The second half of the doubleheader saw Josh Shulman and
Phil Kemp as opposing pitchers. After a scoreless first inning, each team was able to get on the scoreboard. Brenden Garry scored the game's first run, as he was able to turn on a pitch to get the ball over the left field wall. The Dutchmen matched the run taking advantage of miscues by Rochester with
Anders Goetz reaching on an error to score Grasso.
Union extended their lead in the third inning as
David Peretti and
Jamie Faber led off the inning with a single and double respectively to put runners in scoring position with nobody out. Grasso and
Sam Caruso each grounded out but were able to get the runners home as the Dutchmen made it 3-1.
The Yellow Jackets were able to get within one again as Garry drew a one-out walk in the top of the fourth. Dan Warren then singled to put Garry in scoring position. Brian Munoz then singled as well to score in Warren to cut Union's lead to one again.
However, the Dutchmen were able to open up the game in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Grasso was able to crank a Shulman fastball over the left field fence to put Union up 7-2.
Grasso added on his RBI tally with a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth as he increased his RBI total to six on the game to make it 11-4.
Heck also was able to register a home run as he smacked a pitch over the left field wall to extend Union's lead to six in the bottom of the seventh.
Rochester was able to take advantage of walks from the Dutchmen relief staff, as the Yellow Jackets were able to put up a run. However,
Quinn Rhoda was able to come in and retire the side in the ninth inning to secure the win for the Dutchmen.
Kemp improves to 2-1 on the season while Shulman is handed his first loss on the season.
