BRISTOL, RI – The Union College women's volleyball team opened their season with wins over Babson and Rhode Island in the opening day of the Roger Williams University Tournament.
The Dutchwomen opened the season with a come-from-behind win over Babson College. After winning the first set, Union dropped the next two sets to the Beavers. The Dutchwomen prevailed with their backs against the wall in the fourth set, squeaking out a 25-22 decision. Union finished off Babson in the final set 15-7.
Freshman
Ally VanDoren and Sophomore
Rachel Wyman led the Union attack with 15 and 14 kills respectively. Senior captain
Marissa Vollmer recorded a strong start to her final campaign after recording 28 digs.
The Dutchwomen's second match came against Rhode Island College who is coming off a 14-16 2012 campaign. Union disposed of the Anchormen in straight sets with scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-7.
Wyman, who was named to the All-Liberty League Second team during her freshmen year, recorded 10 kills on 20 attempts. VanDoren, freshman

Lauren Woods and
Kelley White added to the Union attack with five kills each.
The Dutchwomen look to continue their early success tomorrow against tournament host, Roger Williams University, and Plattsburgh State University. The matches are scheduled for 9:30 am and 11:00 am in Bristol.
