VanDoren named to All-Tournament Team As Union Splits Final Two Matches

BRISTOL, RI- Union College women's volleyball freshman outside hitter Ally VanDoren earned All-Tournament honors as the Dutchwomen split the final two matches of the Roger Williams University Tournament.

Union dropped their first match of the season to Roger Williams University, who are coming off a 21-11 2012 campaign. The Dutchwomen's lone victory came in the second set behind a 13-kill attack.

VanDoren shined again by leading the team with 13 kills on 36 attempts and 16 digs.

Union quickly recovered from their loss by taking down Plattsburgh State in three straight sets. After dropping the first set 25-19, the Dutchwomen fired back with convincing sets of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-19. Sophomore Rachel Wyman had another strong contest by registering 14 kills and four blocks.

VanDoren's impressive play earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team. She finished the tournament with 42 kills, 48 digs and 5 service aces. Wyman also had a strong tournament while registering 48 kills and two solo blocks.  

With their 3-1 start, Union has matched the early momentum they gained a season ago. They look to continue their early season success next weekend when they travel to Ithaca for the Bomber Invitational. The Dutchwomen will take on Widener and Baptist Bible College on Friday, September 6 and Oneonta State and Ithaca on Saturday, September 7.
