SCHENECTADY, NY -- Kelley White had 12 kills and
Ally VanDoren recorded 11 with 13 digs to lead the Union College volleyball team to a three game sweep over visiting Hartwick at the Viniar Athletic Center Friday night.
The Dutchwomen won their home opener over the Hawks by scores of 25-9, 25-14 and 26-24, to improve to 7-2 on the season. The Hawks fell to 2-9.
Amanda Price had 14 assists and Marissa Volmer had 11 digs in the victory.
Kat Moeller and Price each had 10 digs and had a .243 team attack percentage in the second game of the match. Hartwick was led by Dana Martin's seven kills and 16 digs, and Quincy Kinzel added 10 assists forthe Hawks.
In the opening set, the Dutchwomen had a 16-9 lead and then won nine straight to close out the victory. Hannah Strom had two service aces in that run. The second set had Hartwick up, 6-5, before took a 12-6 lead. The hosts outscored the guests, 8-2 to close out that win. In the third set, Hartwick had a 20-12 lead. But Union stormed back and highlighted by four VanDoren kills, tied it at 23-23. A VanDoren kill made it 25-24 and White's kill provided the 26-24 triumph.
In Friday's other matches, Cortland downed Hartwick in three, while Williams also recorded a three game sweep vs. Oneonta. Nazareth took five games to down Skidmore and Williams later swept Cortland. Nazareth wrapped up the night with a four set win over Oneonta.
The tournament continues at Union Saturday as Union plays Cortland at 1 p.m. and later faces Nazareth at 5 p.m.
