Miller Tallies Second Goal of Season in Draw

SCHENECTADY, NY- The Union College men's soccer team tied Plattsburgh State 1-1 after a double-overtime match at College Park field. Junior midfielder Daniel Miller tallied his second goal of the season to save Union from suffering their first defeat of the season.

The first half saw both goalkeepers make huge saves to keep the game close. Cardinals goalkeeper John Toper finished the first half with three saves. Dutchmen goalkeeper Ryan Carter made a huge save off a header to keep the game scoreless.

The Cardinals finally broke through in the final moments of the first half when Shaq Jackson-Lee tallied his first goal of the season. Jackson-Lee put home a rebound off a blocked shot to give the Cardinals the lead at the 42:46 minute-mark. The first half ended with the Dutchmen trailing the Cardinals 1-0.

Union tied the game on Miller's second goal of the season at the 59:08 minute-mark of the second half. Miller took the feed from senior midfielder Jake Soodek and buried the shot to the lower right corner of the net.

Carter stood strong in net for the Dutchmen as he collected seven second-half saves to keep the game tied and force overtime.
Union was the only team to register a shot on goal in the first overtime but Toper answered the call and the game was forced to a second overtime.

Union had two golden chances down the stretch of the second overtime but couldn't capitalize and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Cardinals outshot the Dutchmen 20-17 and forced Carter to make 10 saves on the day. Toper ended the game with 8 saves.
Jackson-Lee and Fabian Chaparro both received yellow cards for incidents in the second half.

Union returns to action on Tuesday, September 17 when they travel to Troy to take on the Sage Colleges for a night game that tips off at 8:15 pm.
