Breana Derella gave the Dutchwomen the lead in a late second-half tally at College Park.
The Dutchwomen controlled the flow of offense in the first half. Union attempted nine shots and forced Cardinals goalkeeper Brooke Seavitt to make five saves to keep the game scoreless. Dutchwomen junior goalkeeper junior goalkeeper
Allison Brustowicz registered one save on three shots faced in the first half.
Union continued to press in the second half and was awarded late when a foul right outside the box gave the Dutchwomen a chance for a goal in the final ten minutes of play. Derella buried the free kick past the wall of defenders and Seavitt's outstretched hands. Derella's first goal of the season was recorded at the 82:24 minute-mark.
Despite a few more quality chances by the Cardinals, the Dutchwomen were victorious behind three second-half saves by Brustowicz. In total Brustowicz recorded four saves to pick up her second shutout in only three games played. She and the Dutchwomen are now 2-1 on the season.
Seavitt recorded seven saves on 14 shots faced while picking up her second lass of the season.
Derella led the Dutchwomen offense with 4 shot attempts while Alex Rohloff led the Cardinals offense with 2 shot attempts.
Union gets back to action on Tuesday September 17 when they travel to New Paltz for a 4 pm matchup.
