SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior goaltender
Molly McCune made 21 saves but the Union College field hockey team lost to Drew University, 2-0 in a non-league contest at Frank Bailey Field Monday. The game was a make up from the original September 11 game that was postponed due to weather. The Rangers remained perfect on the season at 7-0 while the Dutchwomen fell to 1-5.
After a scoreless first half, Drew scored the eventual game-winner at 52:31. Amber DeMarco was awarded a penalty stroke and fired in her first of the season. The Rangers added insurance at 66:18 when Sam Barcia notched her 11th of the year off a rebound of a McCune save.
McCune made 10 of her saves in the first half, many coming in the final eight minutes of the half.
Union threatened with 22:35 left in the second half with a two-on-one, but a shot from
Alexa Steriti was stopped by goaltender C.C. Carlini. Bea Cannavale had a drive that hit the right post from 15 yards out with 17:30 left for the Rangers. McCune kept it close with a left pad stop of a Brooke Gagliano shot with 5:51 left.
Drew outshot the Dutchwomen, 32-13 and had a 12-9 advantage in penatly corners. Carlini made five saves for the game.
Union is right back home on Wednesday when the Dutchwomen have another non-league contest, hosting Ramapo at 6 p.m.
