Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Faber scores late to give Dutchmen seventh win

NEW PALTZ, NY – The Union College men's soccer team defeated the State University of New York at New Paltz 1-0 in a Tuesday afternoon match at Alumni Field.

Union's Carl Faber converted on a header off a corner from Kevin Janson at the 84:10 mark to give the Dutchmen the only score of the game. Faber's netter was his team-leading sixth of the season.

The Hawks had a chance to take the lead early in the second half when senior forward Javier Ventas blasted a shot from in close toward an empty net in the 52nd minute. A Union defender dove in the way at the last second and kept the ball in front of the line, preventing a sure goal.

Junior goalkeeper Ryan Carter picked up his seventh win of the season, making three saves en route to his second shutout of the season. New Paltz goalkeeper Steven Domino suffered the loss after making five saves prior to allowing the only goal.

The Hawks outshot the visitors, 12-11, on the afternoon. However, Union earned nine corner kicks to just three for the Hawks; one of which set up the winning goal.

Union remains unbeaten on the season, improving their record to 7-0-1, heading into a streak of five matches against Liberty League Opponents.

Union College opens up league play on Saturday when they welcome Bard to College Park at 2 pm.
