SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College women's volleyball team dropped their matches today against Middlebury and Hamilton. After the weekend the Dutchwomen now stand with a record of 11-4.
Union opened up the day with a neutral site match against Middlebury. The Dutchwomen dropped the first set 19-25 but battled hard in the second set, coming up just short of victory by a score of 25-27. Union took the momentum they gained in the second set and won the third set 25-20 before falling in a close fourth and final set 22-25.
Sophomore
Rachel Wyman continued to lead the Dutchwomen attack by registering 14 kills on 31 attempts. Sophomore
Lauren Woods was second on the team in kills with 10 and also added five blocks. Senior
Marissa Vollmer continues to lead the team in defense, as she picked up 23 digs in the match.
In their second match Union took on Hamilton College and came up just short of pulling out the victory. Hamilton pulled out a 25-23 win in the first set before falling to Union in the second set 25-19. After Hamilton squeaked by with another 25-23 win in the third set, Union responded, with their backs against the wall, with a 25-9 victory in the fourth set. Union fell in a heartbreaking fifth and final set, 15-13.
Wyman led the Dutchwomen in kills once again with 11. Freshman
Ally VanDoren was just two kills shy of a double-double after recording 8 kills and 20 digs. Senior
Marissa Vollmer led the Union defense by picking up 25 digs in the match. Freshman
Amanda Price tallied 21 assists and 15 digs.
The Dutchwomen return to action on Tuesday Oct. 1 with a when they travel to Williamstown, MA to take on Williams College at 7 pm.
