Wyman Leads Union to Runner-Up Finish at Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, NY – The Union College women's volleyball team captured second place at the 2013 Bomber Invitational after winning their final matches against Oneonta 3-1 and Ithaca 3-0. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Wyman continued her strong start to the season by being named to the All-Tournament team.

Union opened up the day by defeating SUNY Oneonta in four sets. After winning the extended first set 28-26, Union dropped the second set 23-25. The Dutchwomen went on to capture the next two sets 25-20 and 25-21 to close out the Red Dragons.

Sophomore Kelley White led the Union attack with 15 kills while Wyman registered 14 kills. Freshman Amanda Price recorded three aces and 26 assists while senior Marissa Vollmer led the team with 31 digs.

Union carried the momentum from their first match into the second against Ithaca as they downed the Bombers in straight sets 25-11, 25-9, and 25-19. The team averaged a .333 attack percentage over the three sets with a match high .476 in the first set.

Wyman once again led the Dutchwomen on the attack by registering 11 kills and three blocks. White registered seven kills and three blocks while Price registered 16 assists in the match.

Wyman was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance over the weekend. This is Wyman's second distinction of the season after being named to the Liberty League Honor Roll for her performance in last weekend's contests.

After the loss to Widener on Friday, Union came up just short of defending their title as Bomber Invitational Champions.

The Dutchwomen return home next weekend for the Union Invitational for matches against Hartwick, SUNY Cortland and Nazareth. Union opens the tournament with their first home match of the season on Friday at 6 p.m.
