SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College women's ice opens up 2014 with their first series against RIT since 2002-03 season.

The Dutchwomen will welcome the Tigers to the confines of Messa Rink on Friday at 7 p.m. The teams will play game two on Saturday at 4 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since the Dutchwomen were a part of the ECAC Hockey DIII conference in 2002-03.

Last Time Out
The Dutchwomen enter 2014 just one win away from tying their program record that was set a year ago. The Dutchwomen last hit the ice in a two-game series with Maine on Dec. 13 and 14. The Dutchwomen blanked the Black Bears 2-0 on Friday before losing a high-scoring matchup 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
  • After a scoreless first period on Friday, the Dutchwomen tallied early in the second period when Maine defenseman Kristin Gilmour took a penalty. The Dutchwomen tallied just 29 seconds into the power play as senior Stefanie Thomson picked up the rebound and buried it past the Maine goaltender Meghann Treacy. The original shot came off the stick of junior defenseman Alex Tancrell-Fontaine who blasted a one-timer from the point off a pass from senior defensive-partner Maddy Norton. Both defensemen received assists on the Dutchwomen's man advantage goal.
  • Union increased their lead on their second power play when sophomore forward Courtney Turner cleaned up a rebound off a shot from senior forward Elsa Bruestle. Turner fed Bruestle from the corner. Bruestle fired a shot off the Treacy's pads. Turner followed her pass to the front of the net and fired a rebound past the netminder to give the Dutchwomen a 2-0 lead. Freshman defenseman Kathryn Davis also picked up an assist on the second Dutchwomen goal.
  • Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg's 22 saves left her in a five-way tie with Alana Marcinko (2009-2013), Dana Smullyan (2002-2006), Heather Olney (2001-2002) and Victoria Elkins (2000-01) with three career shutouts.
  • The Dutchwomen held the advantage in shots (26-21) and faceoffs (26-23). The Black Bears blocked an impressive 15 shots, led by Brianne Kilgour with 3 blocks. Norton led the Dutchwomen in blocks with two.
  • On Saturday the Black Bears took the lead early in the first period with two power play tallies. Eve Boissonneault tallied her second goal of the season on a rebound that came off the pads of junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg. Brianne Kilgour received the primary assist off her shot from the point and Kelly McDonald received the primary assist for setting up Kilgour.
  • Senior forward Stefanie Thomson would add her first goal of the night in the final moments of the first period. Thomson picked up a rebound off a shot from senior captain Maddy Norton. Thomson deked backhand and buried the backhand shot past the sprawling Black Bear goaltender Mariah Fujimagari. Junior Alex Tancrell-Fontaine picked up the secondary assist after dishing a pass to Norton. The period ended with the Dutchwomen trailing the Black Bears 2-1.
  • Maine started the second period much like the first. They tallied two goals in the first 13 minutes to take a 4-1 lead. The first goal came from Emilie Brigham who scored by burying a shot to the top right left corner of the net on a 2-1 rush. Hailey Browne received an assist on the play. Maine's second goal of the period came off the skate of Shawna Lesperance. Abbey Cook took a shot from the point that deflected off the stick of Kelly McDonald to the skate of Lesperance and past Lundberg. Lundberg was replaced by sophomore goaltender Madeleine Dahl following the Lesperance goal.
  • Thomson added her second tally of the game with only eight seconds remaining in the second period. Thomson buried a wrist shot short-side from the left circle off a give-and-go feed from Tancrell-Fontaine. The play was set up when Thomson got the puck out of a scrum in the corner and fed Tancrell-Fontaine at the point. She then fed it back to Thomson who was left all alone by the Black Bears defenders to bury the goal. The period ended a few second later with the Dutchwomen trailing 4-2.
  • Maine tallied another goal halfway through the third period to take a three-goal lead when Abbey Cook buried a shot past Dahl.
  • The Dutchwomen would cut the lead to two with their third power play goal of the game. Sophomore forward Kathryn Tomaselli tipped in a slap pass from Norton. Tancrell-Fontaine also picked up her third assist of the game on the tally.
  • Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg finished the game with 33 saves, her second high save total of the season.
  • Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg allowed four goals on 12 shots and dropped to 6-12-0 on the season. Sophomore goaltender Madeleine Dahl had 22 saves on 23 shots in relief.
