Hython leads Dutchmen with career high 25 at RPI



TROY, NY -- The RPI men's basketball team made 45.9% of its shots, including 41.2% from three-point range, and the Engineers defeated Union College, 107-78, in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Arena. Josh Dugas had a team-high 21 points for RPI, which improved to 7-11 overall and 5-4 in the league. The Dutchmen fall to 5-10 and 2-5.

For Union, William Hython had a game and career high 25 points on 11 of 20 shooting. He also had five rebounds and two assists. Kevin Weckworth scored 10 points, while Ryan Whelpley had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Dugas paced the Engineers by making 6 of 9 shots, including 3 of 3 from three-point land, and 6 of 7 free throws. Fifteen others scored for the home team, including four who had 10 points apiece. Nate Kane, Jesus Cardenas, Jarrett Boeglin and Brian Hatcher all chipped in with 10 points and Cardenas added seven assists. Chase Almond had a team-best nine rebounds.

Rensselaer scored 57 first half points on 45.5% shooting (20 of 44) from the field and held a 57-30 lead at the break. On the other end, the Engineers held Union to just 28.2% shooting (11 of 39). The second half was much like the first as RPI made 19 of 41 shots (46.3%), including seven three-pointers, to maintain its wide lead.

Union takes on Bard College Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center at 4 p.m.
