Dahl tallies 45 saves in loss to #4 Clarkson

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Union College women's ice hockey sophomore goaltender Madeleine Dahl registered 45 saves in the Dutchwomen's 5-0 loss to #4 Clarkson on Friday night at Messa Rink. With the win Clarkson improves to 20-4-3 (11-2-2) while the Dutchwomen fall to 8-18-1 (3-12-0).

In her second start of the season, Dahl tallied a game-high 20 saves in the second period alone. This marks the second time this season that Dahl has recorded 45 or more saves.

Jamie Lee Rattray, the nation's leading scorer, improved on her totals by being involved in all five Clarkson goals. She finished with a power play goal and four assists on the evening, bringing her point total to 47 on the season.

Rattray's linemate, forward Vanessa Gagnon opened up the scoring a little over 2 minutes into the game. Gagnon took a one-time feed from Rattray and buried a backhand shot past Dahl. Forward Brittany Styner also assisted on the play.

Styner would add to the Golden Knights' lead midway through the first period after blasting home a shot on the power play. Rattray once again delivered the primary assist while defenseman Erin Ambrose picked up an assist after feeding Rattray from the point. The period would end minutes later with the Golden Knights leading 2-0.

The Dutchwomen opened up the second period on the power play but were unable to capitalize on their one shot.

The Golden Knights would extend their lead to three late in the second period as Gagnon picked up her second goal of the night on a feed from Styner and Rattray.

Rattray and Carly Mercer each picked up power play goals in the third period to bring the score to 5-0.

Clarkson goaltender Erica Howe picked up her nation-leading 10th shutout of the season after stopping all seven Union shots.

The Golden Knights went 3-4 on the power play while the Dutchwomen failed on their only attempt.

Junior forward Christine Valente led all Dutchwomen skaters with 10 faceoff wins.

The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow when they host St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. at Messa Rink.
