SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College women's ice hockey junior goaltender
Shenae Lundberg tallied 34 saves for the Dutchwomen in their 1-0 loss to St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. With the loss the Dutchwomen drop to 8-19-1 overall and 3-13 in conference play.
Lundberg racked up a game-high 14 saves in the first period and kept the Dutchwomen in the game down the stretch. She made nine of her saves with the Saints on the man advantage.
Saints goaltender Carme MacDonald stopped all 24 shots she faced to pick up her second shutout of the season. She also tallied seven saves with the Dutchwomen on the man advantage.
Saints defenseman Dayle Wilkinson tallied the lone goal of the contest on a power play late in the third period. She took a feed from Mel Desrochers as she streaked down the left wing and fired a shot through a defenseman's legs and that beat Lundberg. The goal came with under just over five minutes to play in the game.
The Dutchwomen pulled Lundberg with 1:24 remaining in the period to give themselves an extra skater. They controlled the puck in the Saints zone for the remainder of the period but were unable to convert on several shot attempts.
The two teams traded chances in the first but the two goaltenders stood strong. The Saints had the only special teams opportunity in the period but were held off the board despite registering three shots on net.
The second period played much like the first period. Both teams were unable to convert on their two power play opportunities. The Dutchwomen posted seven shots on goal on their two man advantage situations.
Junior forward
Christine Valente led the Dutchwomen in shots with six while Desrochers led all skaters with nine shots on goal.
Senior
Mac Purvis and sophomore
Courtney Turner tied for the lead in faceoff wins with six as the Dutchwomen edged the Saints 30-20.
The Saints were able to capitalize on one of their six power plays but the Dutchwomen came up short on both their opportunities.
The Dutchwomen return to the ice next weekend when they travel to Yale and Brown for ECACH matches on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
