Troy, Aptowitz star in 2-1 win over league leading Vassar

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior forward Allison Troy scored both goals, including the OT game winner, and sophomore goalkeeper Laura Aptowitz made 11 saves to lead Union College to a 2-1 overtime victory over Vassar College in Liberty League field hockey action Wednesday night at Frank Bailey Field.

The Brewers lost for the first time in league play after a 3-0 start, and the league leaders fell to 11-2. The Dutchwomen are now 5-7 and 1-3 in league play.

Troy took a drive from the middle of the field 10 yards out and won the game at 79:13. Her first goal opened the scoring at 18:32, as she took a pass from Laura Pacheco while she was at the doorstep and tallied her fourth of the season. Vassar tied it on the seventh of the year from Hayley Beach. Enya Cunningham's pass in front came to Beach who deked defenders and shot it into an open right side.

Aptowitz made 11 saves including many big stops in the second half to keep the Brewers at bay. The 11 stops by Aptowitz tied her season high set in the opener vs. Wilkes. Amreen Bhasin made five saves for Vassar. The Brewers had a 23-15 shot advantage and 9-3 advantage in corners.

Union will have Senior Day on Saturday at 12 p.m. with a non-league game vs. William Paterson. Troy and fellow senior Hannah Najar will be honored at this contest.
