Union Earns 3-2 Road Win At Castleton State

CASTLETON, Vt. – Union made the most of its first-ever trip to Castleton State, posting a 3-2 win in the final non-conference game of the season. Union (10-4-2) surpassed its wins total of a season ago while Castleton State, a member of the North Atlantic Conference, saw its four-game winning streak halted.

Senior forward Mollie Gilchrist recorded the sixth multiple-goal game of her career, scoring twice for the Dutchwomen, who dominated in total shots (32-12) and corner kicks (13-3).

Gilchrist knocked in a rebound of Julia Shively's shot at the 18:02 mark in the only scoring of the first half. Stacey Sylvetsky padded the lead with a bending shot from 30 yards out that eluded goalkeeper Jessica Binkowski, who finished with 12 saves.

Castleton State fought back in the 45th minute behind Blaire Hooper's unassisted goal, a long-distance strike from outside the box.  Union made it 3-1 in the 64th minute behind Gilchrist's one-time volley off a cross from Whitney Bickford, who recorded her team-best 15th point of the season.

CSC's Nicole Wershoven closed the gap with a goal at 82:20, but the Spartans could not find the equalizer in the closing minutes.

Brian Speck's squad will host Vassar on Saturday in the regular season finale.  The Dutchwomen need a win to keep their Liberty League postseason hopes alive.
