SCHENECTADY, NY -- William Smith used three different goal scorers in a 3-2 Liberty League field hockey win over Union College at Frank Bailey Field Saturday. The Herons improved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the league while the Dutchwomen are 3-6 and 0-3 in the Liberty League.
Caterhine Hare made seven saves in the nets for the Herons while
Laura Aptowitz stopped six for the hosts. William Smith had a 30-14 shot advantage and also had 18 corners to Union's five.
Hannah Wood opened the scoring for William Smith with her 14th of the season at 15:38. Her shot from the right side tucked inside a post after an assist from Alessandra Patrizio. Just 1:22 later, Katie Meyer notched her seventh when she scored through a scramble in front of the net. It was her seventh score of the year. Union made it 2-1 at 20:13 when
Laura Pacheco scored her fourth of the year with a pass from
Alexa Steriti. Pacheco's tally came from the top of the circle and inside the right post.
Maura Moran opened the second half making it a 4-2 game at 50:41. She scored her third of the fall with a low liner from the right side.
Hannah Najar pulled Union back to within one at 61:18 when she took a pass from
Jessie Mulvey and scored her first of the year.
Union returns to action October 7 at Hartwick.
