Clarkson's Late Tally Upends Men's Soccer

SCHENECTADY, NY - Clarkson's Zachary Godin scored in the 84th minute to give the Golden Knights the 1-0 win over the Dutchmen on a dreary Saturday afternoon at College Park. The loss handed Union their second straight 1-0 defeat in Liberty League action. They now stand at 1-2 in the conference and 5-5-1 overall. Clarkson improves to 6-6-1 on the season and picked up their first conference win, moving to 1-2 in the league.

Following the Golden Knights corner kick, both a Union defender and Clarkson attacker went for the header. The ball bounced off both of their heads and right to Godin, who was waiting 20 yards out from the goal. Godin one timed it past a diving Ryan Carter and into the net to give Clarkson the 1-0 advantage with six minutes remaining.

Union's Matthew Christal had an opportunity one mintue later as he launched a shot that looked like it may have had the chance to tie the game but sailed just over the crossbar.

The Dutchmen controlled play for most of the contest, holding a 20-9 edge in shots, including an 8-4 mark on shots on goal, and had seven corner kicks compared to Clarkson's three. However, Union was not able to convert on those chances. The Dutchmen's best opportunity to score was when Sam Hunter had a good looking header that was right on goal in the 54th minute but the ball was a little too high and went just over the crossbar. Will Poetzsch also had a good strike in the first half but his shot was right at Clarkson's goalkeeper.

Union will look to stop their two game conference losing skid as they host RPI on Wednesday night. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM from College Park.
