SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College volleyball team took the rubber match of the season series from SUNY-Oneonta on Tuesday night, defeating the Red Dragons 25-22, 15-25, 26-24, 25-22.
Kelley White led the Union attack with 10 kills while
Rachel Wyman and
Rajpreet Dhaliwal added nine each for the Dutchwomen.
Morgan Clark chipped in with 8 kills of her own.
Amanda Price handed out a match-high 27 assists and
Kat Moeller collected 29 digs to lead both teams.
With the match tied at one set a piece and the score 23-21 Oneonta late in the third, Union took a timeout as the Red Dragons were on the verge on winning the crucial third set. Whatever was said during the break paid off as the Dutchwomen stormed out of the timeout, taking five of the next six points to win the set 26-24 and move in front 2-1.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair as neither team led by more than three points the entire set. Union's largest lead came at 20-18 before Oneonta rallied for three straight points to take a 21-20 lead which forced head coach
Melissa DeRan to take another timeout. Oneonta claimed the first point out of the timeout to take a two-point lead. The Dutchwomen responded, however, by closing out the set and the match, winning the final five points. Union were lead during the 5-0 run with three kills from Wyman and one from Dhaliwal which served as the final point to help Union seal the victory.
The Dutchwomen will be back in action this weekend as they host their second Union Invitational of the season. During the two-day tournament, the Dutchwomen will face Bridgwater State, Lasell and Susquehanna.
