TROY, N.Y. – Union snapped a lengthy goal-scoring drought and moved up in the Liberty League standings as well in posting a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer under the lights at East Campus Stadium. In defeating their Capital District rivals, the Dutchwomen moved into sole possession of second place with eight points (2-1-2).
Senior defender
Julia Shively produced the game-winning goal, heading a ball into the net from the top of the goalie box, off a corner kick from
Mollie Gilchrist in the 57th minute. The goal was Shively's first since her freshman season, a time frame spanning 48 games. The tally snapped Union's scoreless streak at 288:28.
Allison Brustowicz needed just one save to earn her sixth shutout of the season, and the 13th of her career. RPI outshot Union, 22-9, in suffering their first loss in seven games. Union now owns a 24-4 advantage in the all-time series.
Union will host 11th-ranked William Smith Saturday at College Park Field. The Herons captured the NCAA Championship last season.
