CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Union College Dutchwomen held the lead after one period of play but ended up losing to fourth ranked Harvard 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Erica Kelly's first collegiate goal put the Dutchwomen in front at the 4:44 mark of the opening period. Union took the one goal advantage into the first intermission thanks to senior
Shenae Lundberg who stopped all eight Crimson shots in the period. Lundberg would finish with 24 saves and now is 26 shy of the all-time Union saves record. Her next chance to break the all-time mark will be Friday at home against Providence.
In the second period, Harvard (2-0-0, 2-0-0) scored five times to take a 5-1 lead. Miye O'Drench scored just over three minutes into the stanza to tie it up at one a piece. At the 12 minute mark, O'Drench put the Crimson in front with her second of the contest off the feed from Karly Heffernan. One minute later Sydney Daniels would give Harvard the two goal advantage.
Sarah Edney netted her first goal of the season at 17:27 to put the Crimson in the lead, 4-1. Just over 80 seconds later, Hefferman found the back of the net to increase Harvard's lead.
The Dutchwomen (1-8-1, 0-2-0) would cut into the deficit in the third period as senior
Bryanne Panchuk tallied her first goal of the season on the power play off the feeds from
Kathryn Davis and
Hannah Erickson to make it 5-2 Harvard.
Union will look to stop thier current six-game unbeaten skid as they host the Friars of Providence on Friday. The puck will drop at 3:00pm inside Messa Rink.
