Cailin Schmeer scored 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting as Union College defeated the University of Saint Joseph basketball team 81-51 Sunday in the Championship Game of the 17th Annual USJ Tip-Off tournament at the O'Connell Center.
Western New England beat Johnson State 73-61 in the consolation game.
Schmeer shot 19-for-23 in the two games and added six assists and four steals.
Kate Thompson had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Union and was also named All-Tournament. Heather Framski from USJ, Dorothy O'Neil from WNE and Johnson State's Sarah Voorhis were also named to the All-Tournament team.
Union (2-0) made 18 of 28 first-half field goal attempts Sunday, never trailed and raced out to a 44-22 halftime lead en route to the tournament championship for the second consecutive year.
Carlee Putnam had team-highs of 11 points and nine rebounds for USJ (1-1) and Framski had eight points and six rebounds. Kayla Guest had nine points and seven rebounds for the Blue Jays and Brianna Ferraro had nine points.
Erin Lyons added 10 rebounds for Union, which outrebounded USJ, 48-35.
Union is idle until November 28, when the Dutchwomen play Goucher in the first round of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher. The consolation and championship games are November 29.
