SCHENECTADY, NY -- Wade McNamara scored a career high 23 points but the Union College men's basketball team lost to visiting Williams College, 83-77 in the 2014 Sig Makofski Invitational Tournament at the Viniar Athletic Center Sunday. The Ephs are now 5-2 after a fifth straight win while the Dutchmen fell to 3-2.
Daniel Wohl was named the Most Valuable Player, as he led the Ephs with a double double featuring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Hayden Rooke-Ley scored 21 and Ryan Kilcullen, who also made the tourney team, scored 19 with seven rebounds. Wohl scored 40 points in the tourney. The Ephs shot 48% and had a slim rebounding edge, 37-36.
Winney scored 15 and had 37 in his two games.
William Hython scored 16 and Desohon Burgess added 10 while Hython and
Ryan Whelpley led the Dutchmen with eight rebounds each. Union shot 45% for the game.
Willams shot 52% in the first half and took a 46-38 lead into the break. The largest lead in the second half was 11, at 51-40 after two straight layups by Kilcullen. But Union got as close as two as a three pointer by Winney with 13:26 left capped a 13-2 run for the Dutchmen. But Union could not get any closer then four points the rest of the way, trailing 79-75 with 38 seconds left after a McNamara three pointer, and the Ephs made all four free throws down the stretch.
Union is back in action December 9 at home vs. Hamilton at 8 p.m., while Williams is at RPI on December 2.
