Loya, Schmmer score 15 each in 70-64 loss to RIT



SCHENECTADY, NY -- Courtney Tennant had a double double with game highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Rochester Institute of Technology to a 70-64 comeback victory over host Union College at the Viniar Athletic Center Tuesday night.

RIT improved to 7-15 overall and 5-8 in the Liberty League. Union now stands 12-7 overall and 4-6 in league play.

Jess Kramer scored 12 with eight rebounds, and Ashlynn Palmitesso and Kayla Wheeler had 11 points each for the Tigers. Sydney Frank dished out four assists, as the Tigers, who shot 37% in the first half, shot 45% in the second and made six of 12 three pointers in the second half.

Union was led by Amy Loya and Cailin Schmeer, who scored 15 points each. Loya made nine of 10 free throws and had a team high seven rebounds, while Schmeer was four for four from the line. Kelsey McDonald's 11 points was joined by four assists, and Brittney Kenney added 10 points. Union shot 54% in the first half but finished 37% for the game. The Dutchwomen had a 34-33 rebounding edge.

A three pointer by McDonald with 1:10 left in the first half gave Union a 15 point lead, 42-27 at the half. The Dutchwomen led by 10 with 16:33 left in the second after a layup by Schmeer. The lead was eight at 64-56 with 4:09 left, but the Tigers went on a run to take the lead at 65-64 after nine straight points in 2:47. The Tigers later made three of four free throws to seal the contest and the comeback victory.

Union is right back in action tomorrow night, as the Dutchwomen host Bard in a makeup of the game that was postponed on February 1. Game time is 6 p.m.
