SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Union closed another home season at Messa Rink in fine fashion, defeating Dartmouth, 4-2, to complete a weekend ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals sweep. Â The third-ranked Dutchmen have advanced to the ECACH Semifinals, and will play a to-be-determined opponent on Friday, March 21, at 4:00 p.m. at the Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid.
Union (26-6-4) extended its home winning streak to 12 games, its unbeaten streak to 11 games and improved its record against Ivy League competition to 14-0.
Daniel Carr (goal, assist),
Daniel Ciampini (goal, assist) and
Mike Vecchione (goal, two assists) turned in multiple-point efforts in a contest that was not decided until the final minute.
Vecchione opened scoring at 4:34 of the first period before Dartmouth (10-20-4) responded with two quick strikes, scored at 11:38 and 13:01 on power play goals from Brandon McNally and Tim O'Brien  In the process, Union saw its shutout streak snapped at 200:45.
The Dutchmen battled back to tied the contest at 2-2 on
Daniel Carr's goal at 18:45 of the middle frame. Â Carr nudged a lose puck under a sprawling Charles Grant to reach the 20-goal milestone for the third time in his career. Â
Max Novak then provided the game winning goal at the 9:09 mark, shoveling a backhander from along the goaline that snuck inside the far right post.
Daniel Ciampini added an empty net goal to seal Union's 26th win of the season -- equaling a school record set by the 2010-11 and 2011-12 teams.
