CLERMONT, FL -- The Union College softball team opened the 2014 season, the first under new head coach
Michelle Connors, with a split during the Florida trip. Union opened the season with a 10-0, five inning loss to Bethel but bounced back for a 9-4 win over Ripon.
In the opener,
Camille Corbin had two hits for the Dutchwomen. Bethel had 11 hits on the day and was led by Angie Jackson with three hits, including a double and two runs scored.
Allyson Staats took the loss in 3 1/3 innings but did strike out two.
Union had a solid showing in the second contest for Connors' first coaching win. Staats had three hits including a double and triple, and also drove in four while scoring two runs.
Alyssa Wolejko got the win, allowing seven hits without a walk while striking out four in the complete game triumph. Stephanie Cartwright had two hits for Red Hawks.
Union is back in action Sunday with contests against Hamilton at 5 p.m. and Carleton at 7 p.m.
