CLERMONT, FL -- Emily McGrail scored five goals and
Maggie Comiskey scored three while assisting on two others to lead the Union College women's lacrosse team to a 17-8 victory over Wellesley College in Florida Monday. The Dutchwomen improved to 2-1 on the season.
McGrail had five goals on 10 shots, including seven shots on goal.
Jackie Hagopian,
Haley Gould and
Maddie Lewis scored two goals each and Union also got single scores from
Jessica Farland,
Natalie Sullivan and Michelle Guyette. Sara Rider dished out two assists. Starting goalkeeper
Jen Hughes made three saves in just over 55 minutes of work.
Clair Canty had four goals for Wellesley, and Birt Mscisz scored two with three assists. Nicole DeCanio and Chesley Hooker scored one each. Wendy Nettleton made nine saves in the net.
Union had a dominant shot advantage of 34-16 on the day. The Dutchwomen also had 17 ground balls to Wellesley's 15, and Union was a perfect 11 for 11 in clear attempts while forcing 17 turnovers. The Dutchwomen jumped out to a 4-0 lead and it was tied at 4-4 with 5:06 left in the first half. But Union scored four straight for an 8-4 halftime lead, and also scored the final three goals of the contest.
Union continues the Florida break with a game against Williams in Clermont on Wednesday monring at 10 a.m.
