CLERMONT, FL -- Four players scored two goals each to lead #15 Williams College to a 13-8 non-league women's lacrosse win over Union College in Florida Wednesday. The Dutchwomen now stand 2-2 on the young season.
Rebecca McGovern, Natalie Gill, Stephanie Gallo and Maeve Mulholland each scored twice, while McGovern added three assists. Williams had a 31-21 shot advantage and also a 21-17 ground ball advantage in the contest. The Ephs also were successful on 11 fo the 14 clear attempts.
Emily McGrail scored three goals for the Dutchwomen, while
Maggie Comiskey scored twice. Union got single goals by
Jackie Hagopian,
Haley Gould and
Ashley Allington while
Jessica Farland had an assist. McGrail and Comiskey each had four shots and
Madison Caron and
Paige Smith had team highs of three ground balls each.
Ali Pitch made seven saves in the Williams net, while
Jen Hughes made nine stops for Union.
After Williams opened the scoring at 28:50, Union scored three straight as after the goals by Gould, Hagopian and McGrail, the Dutchwomen led 3-1 at 21:05. After a McGovern score at 13:32, Union scored two straight from McGrail and Allington for a 5-2 lead. But Williams scored the final three goals of the half in a span of 5:56 for a 5-5 tie at halftime.
Comiskey made it 6-5 for Union at 26:40, but the Ephs tallied five straight for a 10-6 lead and never trailed by less than four goals the rest of the contest.
Union returns to campus to open Liberty League play this weekend. The Dutchwomen host Clarkson Friday at 4 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field, then entertain St. Larwence Saturday at 3 p.m.
