Esposito cranks first home run in loss to nationally ranked Whitewater

AUBURNDALE, F.L. – Union College baseball senior outfielder Vincent Esposito hit his first home run of the season in a 26-11 loss to #11 Wisconsin Whitewater on Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.

With the loss the Dutchmen drop to 4-2 in RussMatt Tournament and regular season play.

In the bottom of the third inning with two runners on base, Esposito cranked a long drive to deep right field that carried over the fence. The Dutchmen also picked up three more runs in the inning in their highest scoring game of the season. Jesse Galina, making his first start of the season, singled up the middle to score senior captain David Peretti. Later in the inning Joe Bradlee singled to right to score Jake Fishman. The last run batted in came off a double down the right field line to score sophomore Eric Egan.

Galina and Esposito led the offense with three runs batted each. In addition to his homerun, Esposito cranked a leadoff triple in the first inning to open up the offense for the Dutchmen.  Jake Fishman went 3-5 with two runs scored.

The Dutchmen used four different pitchers in the three and a half hour game. Chris Carbone, Dillon Clancy and Grasso made their first collegiate appearances on the mound for Union. Grasso pitched the most effectively after tossing two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth inning. Senior Andrew Beaule picked up the loss while Mike Nompleggi earned the win for Whitewater.

Union returns to action tomorrow against the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in their final game of the RussMatt tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
