McGrail scores 4; Union collects first league win

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Union College women's lacrosse junior midfielder Emily McGrail tallied four goals in the Dutchwomen's 15-4 win over Clarkson on Friday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field. With the win the Dutchwomen improve to 3-2 and 1-0 in the Liberty League while Clarkson falls to 3-4 and 0-1 in league action.

McGrail improved on her team lead in goals (16) with another impressive performance that included four goals on nine shots. Her teammates junior Ciara Dudeck and sophomores Jessica Farland and Maggie Comiskey each tallied two goals in the contest. Dudeck also led the team in assists with two.

The game was tight through the first 15 minutes of the first half, with both teams registering two goals each. The Dutchwomen then rattled off five consecutive goals in the first half to enter halftime with a 7-2 lead.

In the second half the Golden Knights would get two early tallies to the Dutchwomen's one that cut the lead to 8-4. That is the closest that the Golden Knights would come in the second half as the Dutchwomen rattled off seven straight goals down the stretch to bring the final to 15-4.

Other Dutchwomen scorers included junior Haley Gould, sophomores Michele Guyette and Laura Pacheco and freshmen Jackie Hagopian and Sarah Rider.

Freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Hughes made five saves on 14 shots faced to pick up her second win of the season. Kara DiNatale started between the pipes for the Golden Knights and made 7 saves before being pulled with 17:51 left in the second half in favor of Dani Tani, who allowed five goals while making one save.

Union held the advantage in shots (29-14), shots on goal (23-9), ground balls (23-18) and draw controls (12-9). Union also recorded five shots to the Golden Knight's one on free-position plays. Union was 12-16 on clear attempts while Clarkson went 7-15.

The Dutchwomen play their second Liberty League game of the season when they welcome St. Lawrence to Frank Bailey Field for a 3 p.m. matchup.
