SCHENECTADY, NY -- Maggie Comiskey and
Emily McGrail scored four goals each to lead the Union College women's lacrosse team to a 16-3 victory over Buffalo State at Frank Bailey Field Saturday afternoon. Both teams are now 1-1 after the non-league contest.
Comiskey also had an assist and Union got two goals each from
Jessica Farland,
Haley Gould and
Natalie Sullivan. Goaltender
Jen Hughes made seven saves in over 51 minutes of action, and
Jessica Malinconico played the final 8:24. Union had a 29-15 shot advantage and 16-13 ground ball advantage for the day. The Dutchwomen also converted 10 of 12 clear attempts.
Rebecca Galanti, Becca Martinez and Ashley Coleman each scored for the Bengals, while Brooklynn Schilling made three saves in the first half and Colleen George stopped four in the second half.
Union jumped out to a 6-0 lead.
Ciara Dudeck scored on a free position just 4:43 into the game, and 1:17 later, Dudeck fed Sullivan for a score. Gould scored at unassisted at 23:07 and Farland assisted McGrail's goal at 22:43. Farland then scored an unassisted goal at 18:08 and Comiskey got her first of the day at 17:34. Galanti put Buffalo State on the board at 15:38, but Union regained the six goal lead at 11:24 on Comiskey's free position goal. Sullivan scored at 8:44 and
Jackie Hagopian closed out the scoring with 2:54 left for a 9-1 halftime lead for the hosts. Union had a 15-9 shot advantage at halftime.
After Dudeck assisted on McGrail's goal at 28:33, Martinez converted a free position at 25:09. But Union scored six straight, starting with Farland at 21:52. Comiskey scored a free position goal at 18:09, her third of the day, and McGrail got her third at 14:42. It was 14-2 after Gould's score at 12:11 (from Comiskey) and Comiskey's fourth at 8:38 made it 15-2. McGrail notched her fourth with 6:32 left and Coleman tallied the final goal of the day with 1:11 left for the Bengals.
Union is idle until the Florida trip later this month. Union plays Wellesley on March 24 and Williams on March 26, with both games in Clermont, Florida.
